Invitation from Arthur van Amerongen:
On Friday 13 March a literary bomb will go off. Not in the Stadsschouwburg during that pathetic little booksy ball full of boomers, airhead chicks and ridiculously expensive drinks, but right here in The Unsafe House! In the brand-new venue of circus boss Tarik Sadouma!
Publisher Ezo Wolf and The Unsafe House are throwing the fifth edition of the alternative Books Ball: the Shadow Ball!
So no dreary corpse of an event in the Stadsschouwburg with wagonloads of brainless publishing bimbos, drunk off their tits, squeezed like sausages into way-too-tight rented ballgowns, wobbling and stumbling on stilettos. Surrounded by pathetic soap stars from the trash channels SBS and RTL and other so-called “influencers”, with the only literary giant being the gender-fluid Sunday scribbler Adriaan van Dis — the man who betrayed our true hero Wim T. Schippers for 40 years and became the darling of boomer Netherlands and its fossilized mainstream media.
In the spirit of the one and only Wim T. Schippers, Ezo Wolf and The Unsafe House are organising a deranged literary happening full of subversive and gloriously dysfunctional nudity, featuring Tarik Sadouma’s incomparable Kittens.
We kick off this already legendary night with an accessible literary talk show for the low-literate.
Paraguay connoisseur Arthur van Amerongen will present the anniversary edition of his cult classic Mambo Jambo and his shiny new limited-edition glossy Gonzo Paraguay. Ezo Wolf also presents its new bestsellers: The Trip of Ferdinand Hania by show friend Theodor Holman, the Zionist football novel The Fall of Eli Coen by Sander de Vaan, the definitive biography of South African poet Ingrid Jonker, and new work from Tijs van Bragt. Advertising legend Adriaan Kuiper — five-time Golden Loekie winner — presents The Art of Doing Whatever The Hell You Want. For dessert, Mark Koster, the nightmare of the establishment media, presents his new bestseller: Studio Ego – How the Public Broadcaster Is Going Down in Flames from Corruption, Power Trips and Hypocrisy.
The literary bit (don’t worry Gen Z, Millennials, TikTok kids and other illiterates — it won’t last long) will be closed by the greatest and most legendary publisher in the Netherlands: Vic van de Reijt — discoverer of both Van Amerongen and Grunberg — who will be dropping proper vinyl dance tunes. After that, circus director Tarik Sadouma and his muse-enabler Ruth Spetter take the reins and turn the place into a raging, pounding party until the sun comes up.
